Inside Laurel Court—A 1907 Tour
The center of the house has a glass ceiling covering a two-story atrium, which permits light to enter the interior rooms. A Tuscan colonnade frames three sides of the Atrium. Interior walls of the atrium are constructed of polychromic brick made from volcanic ash. Water piped from the cistern below watered the plants during the winter, and during the summer the glass ceiling is retracted for natural rain.
